Dear Teachers and Model United Nations Advisers,
It is our pleasure to invite you to the twelfth annual BERMUN2 Conference which takes place at the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Berlin from March 2-4, 2017.
BERMUN2 is primarily a regional Model United Nations conference organized by the John F. Kennedy School. We are grateful to the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung for providing the venue and logistical support for the conference. Through this simulation, students gain insight into international politics and the work of the United Nations, polish their rhetorical and communicative skills, and work together with other students to find practical solutions to global problems. By preparing the topics and conversing in English, language and research competencies are practiced and refined.
This year, background guides have been provided by the Lebanese American University (LAU). We appreciate the university sharing the guides and we would like to acknowledge the work their students and faculty have put into preparing these guides, thus continuing the cooperation we had with UNA-USA for the first 11 years of BERMUN2. The BERMUN2 student officers will prepare addenda to the background guides with updates, questions to consider and more links to important documents. Once posted, they can be found on our website at www.bermun2.de. This year’s committees and topics are:
ECOSOC – Tackling the Eurozone Crisis
GA6 – Digital and Cyber Surveillance on Civilians as a Prerequisite to Combat Crimes
UNESCO – Preserving Intangible Cultural Heritage
UNICEF – Improving Socio-economic Conditions as a Prerequisite to Combat Juvenile Crime and Violence
SC – The Iran Nuclear Agreement
HSC – India and Pakistan 1947
